Información sobre pastos
You’ve probably heard of pigs in a blanket, but have you ever seen a pig in a bed? Willy came to us from a wonderful family who were no longer able to manage his size. Since he had been a domestic pig and lived in the family house with their young daughter (including sleeping on her bed), we made a full bedroom set-up for Willy, including his own bed.
A pig’s eyesight is blurry compared to humans, giving them more of a near-sighted view so please gently drop food over the fence for him to graze.
Pigs are highly intelligent, social, and clean mammals that share remarkable cognitive and physical traits with humans. They rank among the smartest animals on Earth, with cognitive abilities comparable to a 3-year-old human child and problem-solving skills that can outpace dogs.
A pig’s sense of smell is up to 2,000 times more sensitive than a human's, helping them forage for underground delicacies like truffles. Their snouts are filled with acute scent receptors which make them ideal for rooting and exploring their environment. They can pick up scent trails and identify odors from as far away as 5 to 7 miles.
Pigs lack functional sweat glands, which is why they wallow in cool mud to regulate their body temperature.
Meet the Animals

Willy
This sweet boy is a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig. They are small, intelligent domestic pig breeds from Southeast Asia that can learn tricks, walk on a leash, and use a litter box like a dog. Willy’s family often visits him and takes him for a walk around the sanctuary. His favorite treats are strawberries and Cheerios.
Around the Pasture
The sanctuary would not be possible without the generous people and businesses who support our animals and their care.
