Our chicken run is divided into 3 sections so the chickens can all be with their friends. These birds can sometimes peck at fingers so for safety and the health of the chickens, please do not feed the treats to them. They are beautiful to look at and if you’re lucky, you may even hear one of the roosters give a little “cockadoodledo.”

Meet the Animals

Olga and Tatiana at Sammamish Animal Sanctuary
Olga and Tatiana

These two beautiful girls are Russian Orloff chickens and make their home in the first section of our chicken run. Though named after a Russian Count, it is believed the chickens originated from the Gilan province in Persia.

Sunny and Miss Purple at Sammamish Animal Sanctuary
Sunny and Miss Purple

Our rooster Sunny, a very handsome fella, and his hen friend Miss Purple, share the middle section. Miss Purple is a Rhode Island Red beauty. Sunny’s feathers are very intriguing as they can be black, purple, green and red, depending on the light. Sunny is very protective so keep fingers outside the fence so he doesn’t mistake them for an intruder.

Whiskey at Sammamish Animal Sanctuary
Whiskey

You can see our second rooster in the last section of the run. He is a multi-colored Icelandic rooster. Icelandic chickens have very diverse coloring and no two are exactly alike. Despite being smaller than his counterpart Sunny, Whiskey is determined not to be overshadowed and crows mightily to be sure everyone hears...and we do…can’t miss it, actually!

Around the Pasture

The sanctuary would not be possible without the generous people and businesses who support our animals and their care.
