These ducks love their pools and can often be found gracefully swimming or huddling next to each other by their little fence. Ducks eat vegetables and special grains so treats aren’t of interest to them.

Meet the Animals

Skinny at Sammamish Animal Sanctuary
Skinny

This lovely Indian Runner duck has had many challenges in life but has a great spirit and enjoys her many friends at the sanctuary. The Indian Runner is famous for its upright, penguin-like posture.

Quackers at Sammamish Animal Sanctuary
Quackers

A Black Swedish duck, Quackers has been with us for many years. He initially thought he was a chicken and spent most of his time with our hens. Now that he has met the other ducks, he’s happy to be back being a duck. The Black Swedish ducks are known for their tuxedo styling and calm temperament.

Donald at Sammamish Animal Sanctuary
Donald

This big guy is a Muscovy duck, a large, stout duck native to Mexico and Central and South America. Unlike most ducks, they have sharp, curved claws on their webbed feet that allow them to perch in trees. Muscovy ducks do not quack; instead males communicate with low huffs, puffs, or hisses, while females make quiet chirps or pips.

Around the Pasture

The sanctuary would not be possible without the generous people and businesses who support our animals and their care.
